Roots & Mesh

In a rural Nova Scotian fishing town, one of the last Lockes of Lockeport and three “come-from-aways” attempt to mesh voices, musical styles, and intergenerational worldviews as the Harmony House Band, all in time to perform at the women’s music festival that birthed them. As they scramble to get “gig-ready”, they realize that merging as a band might be more challenging than initially anticipated.

Their journey is reflected in the history of the Harmony Bazaar festival itself, which is rooted in the stories of women working together to support Lockeport, Nova Scotia during the downturn of the Atlantic Canadian fishing industry.

Told through an intersecting approach that harnesses observational storytelling alongside traditional interview and archival content, Roots & Mesh is my latest feature documentary that pulls viewers into the visual and visceral heart of what it takes to build a community from its disparate parts.

This project is in progress (coming in 2026!).
